March 2006 Archives

For one, the local Papa John's in Troy is closing. Most likely due to too much competition from the other 5, from what I've heard, pizzerias. Sad, from the few that I've gotten pizza from, they were the best. Plus, I could order my pizza over teh Intarwebs. But, of course, for the extra quality they had, they charged more than other places and I suppose college life is quantity over quality. Yesterday was their last day. If only I had known before today, I would have order one last pizza.
Secondly, I'm going to do some work on my Stang this weekend to, hopefully, fix a few problems with it. Nothing serious but seriously annoying. More on that later.
That's about it, I suppose. Nothing much else to talk about. ..

Yep, I recently acquired a Newton Keyboard for my lovely Newton MP 2100. Sadly, I have no way of hooking it up to it.
As you may or may not know, the 2100 came with no built-in serial port. Thus, I have to either have an adapter or an internal add-on for it, in order to use the keyboard. Both these options cost nearly the price I paid to get my hands on the Newton itself.
So, you see my predicament. I could possible construct my own adapter for it, but I fear it may be a little difficult.
I'm going to have to come up with something. I really would like to use a keyboard to input info onto the Newton.

   Hmmmmmmmmmmm...

YOu might have heard not long ago, but Skype released their new thingy that allows 10-way conference calling (Yea, I know. Who cares?). The thing is that they said that only Intel processors could handle it, and they limited other processors (pretty much only AMD) to only 5-way calls, or something.
Apparently, as I read on Slashdot last week, someone had patched Skype so that all processors could use it. This seems to say that it wasn't really Intel optimised. Hmm, comtemplation.

(sorry for the lateness of this entry, i had saved it from earlier and only now got around to publishing it)

It has been a week or so since Apple released the 10.4.5 update. Personally, I would have updated to it rather quickly, but I have to wait on Powerlogix to get the new version of CPU Director out.
The thing is that since an earlier 10.4.x update, something happened that caused CPU Director to stop working once an update was applied. The exact why of this, I don't know. Nevertheless, Powerlogix has usually been rather quick to release a new version that will work with the latest version of 10.
It's not like my processor will stop working if I update. The only thing that will happen is that my G3 will be stuck at 800MHz until I can use an updated CPU Director to set it to 1.1GHz (Hey, its fast enough for me.).
So, I suppose I'm not really missing anything. It is just a usual update. Aside from some security fixes and whatnot.
