May 2007 Archives

I finally have the snowcone maker cleaned, after a good few minutes. There is nothing as enjoyable and tasty as a cotton-candy flavored snowcone. This is especially true after a hectic day without my dailiy 'Power Nap'. Ahhhh, tasty.
In the more computer related area, I moved my Gaming PC from its 'custom' case to a more uniform and nice looking one. It was extremely easy compared to other moves I've had to make before. Everything went into place and its all together now. I don't feel like crawling behind my desk. So, I'll test it to make sure everything works tomorrow (or Sunday, strangely enough).
Also, the package with my new router arrived today. I'll get it connected up tomorrow, much like the Gaming PC.

Its been sometime since I last played either Eve Online or World of Warcraft. To tell you the truth, I've missed flying around my spaceship more than running around with Hokusai, the Paladin of Light. I suppose I equally miss both. I've just played Eve Online more recently than WoW.

I woke up this morning and it was about 10 past. Uh-oh. I might not have time to get a nice good breakfast ready. I'll rush, no need to worry.
Then, as I was pulling on some cloths, I happened to glance again at my watch. That is when I noticed that it was 4AM and not 5AM. Thus, I did a quick pro-con list in my head and decided it was better to throw off what cloths I had on and go back to bed for another 30 to 45 minutes. It was a good sleep too, let me tell you.
Today was the first day that I took my 'power nap' in the 'new' place too. It was both relaxing and energizing.

Yes, after finding out why the city turned off my power instead of 'turning it on', I did go by and get the self-installation cable internet kit from Charter. As you can tell, I am once again sailing through the vastness that is the internet and I am glad.
I only got the 3Mbps/256kbps package but that is more than enough for me. Plus, that is really the only thing I can afford at the moment. Maybe in the future I will move up to the higher tier services. Mind you, they get expensive up there. I'll just have to see how things work out.

Now that I think about it, I don't spend much time in my bedroom now that I have my computers in the other room. This doesn't afford me much access to my bookshelf that is almost totally dedicated to computer parts. I suppose I do manage to go in there when need a certain part, but I like to just gaze on the stuff sometimes. Just for kicks.
I suppose like many other 'things', this will get remedied when I move to my new place. The whole living room will be my computer/media room. It will be nice. Many things will be nice. Niiiicccceeee...

Well, tomorrow I will go about signing the lease to and getting the keys to my new place. I can't really wait.
If all goes as it should, I will be just doing some light moving and cleaning up tomorrow. I won't be doing any moving of furniture, though. That will be saved for when I have a truck or two at my disposal. My little 'ole Mustang just isn't capable of moving too much (I have to fix it's shocks too). Mind you, I can lower the back seats to get a larger trunk area.
One of the good things about the 'new' place is that it comes with a relatively-new and good condition washer and dryer. I simply don't have the funding to buy them otherwise. I would have had to use the bathtub and a clothsline in order to do my laundry. I wouldn't have liked that.

In fact, now that I can look at what my upcoming full paychecks are going to be like, I have realized something: I don't get payed very much. I might actually be pursuing that state job with more than passing interest now. It pays a bit more and the hours might be better. I don't know what 'better' would entail, though. Different if anything. Yes, different.

Seti@home...

If you are in the know, you would have known about Seti@home being down for some time not too long ago. Well, they got everything back up about a week or less ago. Now my Gaming PC is happily chugging along doing some important work.
I won't be doing any scientific work when I start playing Half Life 2: Episode 1. Sadly, when I bought Half Life 2, it wasn't the package that came with Episode 1 with it. Nevertheless, it is cheap enough for me. Well, I ain't got much money at the moment. But I will have some to spare on games soon enough. I hope, at least.

Good news, my loyal internet reader(s). I've heard back, in a positive way, from one of the state jobs I applied for. In fact, I'm to report for examination in about 2 weeks.
I feel quite content in my current job at the moment, but the one I'm going to be examined for pays more. Mind you, I don't know where they will want me to work.
Damn, I can't wait until I move out. Hopefully this weekend, actually.

In fact, I'm VERY pleased. Today, Blizzard announced that the new game is Starcraft II. I'm ever so happy.

Something new...

Have you checked by Blizzard lately. I ever do wonder what that question mark is going to be. Oooooo, the possiblities. I do hope that it is not another damn MMORPG or anything like that.
Personally, I would really like it to be Starcraft 2 or something related to Starcraft. On the other hand, I would like to play some new Diablo.
An actual suprise to look forward to.

I'm quite happy for my Newton lately. It finally has a useful schedule to keep. I actually have THINGS in there; not just a to-do list of things I would like done. Mind you, I don't use it for much aside from scheduling these days.
I do use it do some light web browsing every now and then, on the other hand. Sadly, its 1998-era (though high-end for at the time) technology does show its age sometimes. In order to give it an extra boost, I should learn to solder, in order to overclock the 160MHz StrongARM to around 220MHz. That does speed things up a bit but its is a somewhat difficult task for one such as me. I may get around to it eventually. No real rush. None at all.

My rental application has been approved and I'm scheduled to go tomorrow and see the only avaliable 2-bedroom place. I do hope that it meets at least my lowest expectations. I can't wait to move out of my current place.
It's not that my current place of residence is bad, but the small things piss me off so very much.
   There must be order.

I just got back from a nice and very enjoyable weekend house-sitting my parent's place. It's nice to be able to walk around a yard. A yard with some trees. Hell, a yard with a pond in it.
Damn, I can't wait till I got my own place. For once, I'll take the master bedroom and bathroom for myself. It will be good. I can't wait to get out of this damn place.
In very good news, I set aside some of my last paycheck for BOOKS. Children of Hurin and Promise of the Widch-King should be en route by tomorrow. There is nothing like a good fiction book to draw your attention away from how much this world sucks. Yes, books are a good thing. Probably the best of things.

Still here...

I got my first paycheck today. It was only for a week's worth of work but it was still a bit for me. I've already set aside most of it for a savings of sorts.
The rest, though, I haven't yet decided what to use it on. Mind you, my Gaming PC is needing more memory. I'm hoping to get a 1GB module for it soon.

Sometimes, although rather unusually, there is something on the Internets that is... good. The Chad Vader (links to the profile page for the creators, lists all the videos) series on the Youtubes is such a thing.
I can't really say much other than that you should see this. The theme music is especially nice.

I finally got around to gettin' my lazy ass to get an OS X icon set ready. It ain't nuthin' fancy but I like it.

Computer Parts: Part 1 icon set

I'm sorry I didn't get a preview thing up. I plan to get something like that ready. Something fancy, that is.

Well, Powerlogix finally released a updated version of CPU Director to work with Apple's latest 10.4.9 update. So, I took the plunge and installed the update.
I did eventually get everything to working correctly again, after the customary 30-to-90-minutes session of reparing everything. Unlike the previous updates, I did have to reapply the PCI Extreme (to enable Quartz Extreme on my PCI video card) hack again. The CPU Director's extensions were also causing problems. Nothing a few restarts couldn't fix, though.
I'm worried, though. I fear that the next one, if there is, will be the 'BIG' one (ode to Sanford and Son). I don't want to end up one of those tales I hear about when a certain update completely hosed a machine. I won't let it happen.
I like my B&W G3 to be fully functional and I intend it to stay that way. Forever...

It seems that I've been able to keep up with my promise of almost-daily updates. They may not always be the most thought out or informative but they get the job done.
Don't worry my loyal internet reader(s), I'll get some real goodies up soon. Well, I like to think of them that way.

I can't wait to get my first paycheck. I can yet decide what to do with it, aside from saving some and paying some bills. I could probably spare a few dollars towards my technology 'fetish'. Maybe something for my Gaming PC, something for my 'ole Performa, or maybe something even for me Mac. Hmm, decisions.

Its probably the noise. I was being hesitant of wearing the ear plugs the last two days in case I needed to hear something important during my training. I suppose I'll have to put them on tomorrow, though. I do not like the headaches. They hurt my head. I like my brain.
In a general overview, my job training seems to be going good so far. I know some stuff. I don't really know the specifics of it all but I suppose I'm getting along well enough. I would hope so at least. Yes, I would hope so.
