September 2007 Archives
I just got done a bit ago with mowing my lawn. I have to say again that it is a nice experience to finally have a damn lawn. (I was pretty sure that I was going to go somewhere with this but that's about it. I mowed my lawn That's all.)
In related news, I do plan on doing some gardening around my yard. I'll probably put up some sort of border vegetation in order to add some structure to my back yard. Maybe a little bit of picket fence here and there too.

I finally got up off my lazy (understatement) ass and plopped the 68K version of OpenTransport onto a Zip disk. Installed it on the Performa 460 and now it's online.
The browser I was using was text only and was understandably quick. Sadly, the browser didn't support forms. Otherwise, I would have posted a new entry on there.
I wonder what I should do next with the good 'ole Performa. I've maxed out the RAM and VRAM, added an ethernet card and FPU, and that is about it. I suppose I could add a better hard drive in there. Not anytime soon, though. Money is too tight even for a small expense like that. Tough crackers. I'll probably put some older games and software on there and just have fun. Good times.
Today has been one of those blah type of days. I've just mainly been reading some Rama Revealed and listening to some streamin' music. Aside from a bit of laundry, I haven't really accomplished very much. In fact, I don't really feel like getting up to do much.
I think that I'm going to devote almost all of tomorrow morning to attempting to fix the Newton's power button. It has gotten to the point where I can't really even turn it on anymore. If it is just a simple type of switch, I may be able to replace it with another one. That will be tough, though. There isn't much spare space in there. I'll think of something.
I suppose that I do need to go clean out my Mustang. Damn, it has gotten cluttered in there. Not dirty, just a bunch of crap sitting on the seats. No ants, though. No ants at all.
Feelin' kind of blah...

I got bored this weekend and decided to take a stop by GameStop to see what they had in the way of used PS2 games. I perused around for a bit and decided on buying two games.
The first game I picked up for 10 bucks was Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. I've played about 4 hours worth of it so far and it is quite fun. It has a definite Diablo II feel about it. That's a good thing.
The other game I picked up, Shadow the Hedgehog, is one that I've been wanting to check out for some time. Sadly, I still have yet to play it. I do plan on doing so soon, though. Time, time.
In total I only spent around $25. I think it was a good deal.

I finally found out what was causing Dark Messiah to either not start up or crap out shortly after starting to play. It seems that it doesn't like my software audio (hardware accelerated audio rarely comes equipped on motherboards). Lowering the acceleration utilization, via DXDiag, enabled me to play the game again. Good thing as I'm near the end of it.
Well, it seems that my 'M' key on my keyboard is getting flaky or something. For the last ten minutes, it hasn't worked at all. It seems to be fine now, though. How much longer, though?
I'm thinking of modifying my desk's keyboard tray in order to fit the larger Apple Extended Keyboard II up here. Or I could just buy a cheap mini USB keyboard off of eBay for a really cheap price. A cheap keyboard would probably be cheaply made, though. That leaves only the former option.
I suppose that I'll have to keep a lowercase of uppercase M in the clipboard at all times.

Well, I went out to my car to work on it some more after it still leaked yesterday. Guess what I found out? Apparently, I didn't completely screw in one of the hoses. Strange, eh. I could have swore I didn't forget that one.
I'm glad that it was on the 'return' hose and not on the high-pressure one that I forgot to tighten all the way down. That could have been a lot nastier than a little bit of fluid leaking out. A whole lot nastier.
I tested it out by turning the wheel far to the right and left. I made sure to pay real close attention to the power steering stuff to see any fluid leaking out anywhere. I didn't see anything. So, I think that problem is out of the way.
Once I get some good savings saved up, I intend to take my car by Ford to see what can be done about my engine knock. Perhaps they have this industrial strength cleaner that gets rid of any crud in the engine. I have heard of it.

For starters, I have to stay that the 6 or 7 episodes I've watched so far show great promise. I don't see any giant mechas piloted by 14-year-olds yet (the intro does show what appears to be a giant mecha, though). Nor have I seen any other anime cliches. Well, some (I think) but not the painful ones.
In fact, I can't wait to watch the next episode right now. I think you should too.
I'm currently in the middle of finally getting the high pressure hose for the power steering replaced. I would have gotten it done sooner but I shared my time with mowing the lawn. Plus, my lack of progress initialy angered me greatly which in turn made any progress slower in coming.
Nevertheless, things are moving along greatly now. I have determined that one of the hoses blocking my way can be removed as it is the other hose (low pressure?) coming from the power steering pump. After I remove that hose things should moving along quite nicely. I hope, at least.
Fixing the engine-knock, fixing that squeek, and fixing that horrible grinding noise should be the only major problems left after this.
I finally put the new PRAM battery into the G3 Server's motherboard. This should stop it telling me on startup that its time is off. This would stop it until I clicked OK. Not very good on a automated server.
Nevertheless, the G3 server is now back online. All I have to do is find a way around the fact that I no longer have a static IP. There are some easy things to do, I suppose.

Apparently, the leak in my power steering in my Stang is in one of the hoses. I'm glad that I won't have to replace the entire pump. That would have sucked.
I plan on just using some JB Weld in order to seal it until I can get around to replacing the entire hose.
