November 2007 Archives

I do remember the first few weeks/days where I had my house just the way I wanted it. Empty of anyone except for me. Those were the good days. Yep, just me. Nice.
It sucks getting what you want and then losing it not long after. That's what I get for being nice, I suppose. Figures. I need to learn to more mean/assertive.

This particular picture was inspired by the last banner/background theme for the Gardens. You know, the feathers and the light rays and whatnot. I think that it is quite spiffy. Plus, it is entirely green.
You will find it in the Abstract section of the Wallpaper Gallery menu on the right side of this page.

I've been thinking about things lately. For one, I realized I'm paying $10 a month to essentially have a blog (the server fee). Sadly, this took a while to dawn on me.
I've decided with the low level of traffic my blog actually gets, my server here in the house should be able to handle it quite well. I may actually be upgrading my server to a 1.4GHz Celeron-based machine that should be able to handle even better. All in good time, though. There is no rush.
The reason that I've been thinking about this is Netflix. Right now, I'm at the lowest type of account, 1-at-a-time. I want to move up to the one I used to have and have a little bit of money freed up. Since I have no other 'optional' bills, the point of having this server has come into question. With that money released, I could even move up to the 2-at-a-time service. I have no reason to go up to that, though. There is no point.
I checked on Spiderweb Software's site this morning to find out that they have released Avernum 5 right on time. I haven't yet played even a small bit yet but I do plan to soon. As always, I don't doubt that it is going to be fun.
Now I just have to manage to save up some money to register it.
Whine, whine, and some more whining. People are always going to say some aspect of something is stupid. Frankly, I agree that the transparent menubar in the new Mac OS X (10.5) is a what-where-they-thinking type of decision. Why? I suppose it looks fancy. Until you try to use it, that is.
Will people keep bitching about it a couple of months from now? No. Hell, people were the same way about the Dock when OS X originally showed up. Do you hear any arguments about getting rid of it now? Nope. Time heals all wounds, I suppose (sorry for using that saying).
Personally, I would just edit my wallpapers to include a grey/white bar the size of the menubar at the top of them. I bet you people will get used to it soon enough. Or someone will make a good solid third-party solution to make it the way it should be. Whatever.
The installation process was actually quite simple and didn't take very long at all. I may have to go back in there again to possibly replace the Microdrive with a compact flash replacement. Mind you, that depends on how much more life it has in it.
Sorry for the lack of updates recently. Aside from the 'Notes', of course. I suppose that I've just not had much to talk about. Mind you, I haven't really done much either. I bebop on the computer in the morning and then I go to work for the last half of the day. Not much happenin' here.
In some good news, I do plan on spending the time I usually use watching TV after work to do some stargazing. I tried viewing that comet that has been in the news lately but I had trouble just finding the damn thing. Hopefully it will be easier tonight becuase I plan on properly calibrating my telescope's viewfinder today. It shouldn't be a particulary hard affair. A necessary one, though.

Well, I was bothered from my small nap yesterday by the sound of a lawnmower. Shit. I suppose I should have mowed the damn yard last weekend. I'm out something like $75 dollars now. That's slightly more than a twelth of my monthly income. Gone. I was actually starting to build up my financial buffer again.
Fate, I suppose, has no intention of letting me gather some sort of savings. Oh well, what am I going to do?
