Memory test on the GamingPC

I'm currently running a memory test on the GamingPC to determine if the
RAMz is the source of any problems. So far, it doesn't seem so. I may
just have to end up reinstalling Windows XP on there.

Before
I do that, though, I mean to buy another new hard drive to install it
upon. That drive in there that holds the Windows installation is only
like 10GB.

G3 work...

Well, this morning I decided to go ahead and give the B&W G3 a
little dusting out. Cat hair and what not can build up quite quickly in
this house. It was a simple enough procedure and I finished in good
time.

I
once again looked at the large copper heatsink with doubt, as I always
do. There were several reasons why I didn't particulary like it. One,
it was heavy. Not too heavy but just enogh that I worried about it.
Secondly, the custom made clip for it never really held it on tightly.
Third, the bottom part, that contacts the chip, was very 'unfinished'
in that it wasn't nice and smooth.

I decided to use a smaller
copper heatsink that I now had avaliable to replace it. The smaller
one, although not possessing the fins and surface area of the current,
would be more than sufficient for the task. Plus, as I found out while
installling it, the clip holds it on very tightly without any play in
there.

You could say that the stock aluminum heatsink was more
than enough. I mean, the G3s/750s don't put out a lot of heat
themselves. I just like 'upgrading' my 'ole G3. More cooling never
hurts.

The Knock. It is still there. It seems that either the Seafoam didn't do anything or else something else didn't go right. Figures.

I think that whatever is wrong is beyond my ability to fix. There should have been a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust when we used that Seafoam. I don't know why there wasn't.

This has just been a week of epic failures. Nice.

To just let everyone that uses this server know, I'm going to begin the cancellation process on the 12th or 13th of this month. I've already downloaded the latest site backup, but it is only for September. Any changes made since then would not be backed up, obviously. So, I would suggest getting anything you absolutely need off before then.

New Gardens of Aiur...

The new Gardens of Aiur is coming along nicely. It feels nice to be hosting it off of the G3 Server. There is a certain nostalgic charm to be using MacHTTP running under Mac OS 9. Plus, writing all the necessary CGIs in Applescript is quite fun. Mind you, Applescript isn't really obselete since it is still developed for OS X. Still, that's the only real way to do some of the more dynamic things on this server.
More good news is that the new layout doesn't use tables to do the layout. It's almost pure CSS/XHTML. It doesn't look half bad either.

So, here you go.
This particular picture was inspired by the last banner/background theme for the Gardens. You know, the feathers and the light rays and whatnot. I think that it is quite spiffy.
Thoughts on this site/server...

I've been thinking about things lately. For one, I realized I'm paying $10 a month to essentially have a blog (the server fee). Sadly, this took a while to dawn on me.
I've decided with the low level of traffic my blog actually gets, my server here in the house should be able to handle it quite well. I may actually be upgrading my server to a 1.4GHz Celeron-based machine that should be able to handle even better. All in good time, though. There is no rush.
The reason that I've been thinking about this is Netflix. Right now, I'm at the lowest type of account, 1-at-a-time. I want to move up to the one I used to have and have a little bit of money freed up. Since I have no other 'optional' bills, the point of having this server has come into question. With that money released, I could even move up to the 2-at-a-time service. I have no reason to go up to that, though. There is no point.
